Manderley

The Collection

Inspired by Daphne du Maurier’s classic 1938 Gothic romance Rebecca, this collection explores the atmosphere, characters, and emotional landscape of the story through colour.

Set on the Cornish coast, Rebecca centres on the great house of Manderley and the powerful influence of its former mistress, Rebecca de Winter. Though Rebecca is dead before the story begins, her presence continues to shape the lives of those around her, particularly the young and uncertain second Mrs de Winter who arrives at Manderley after marrying Maxim de Winter. As she struggles to find her place within the house and its expectations, the shadow of Rebecca — and the secrets surrounding her life and death — gradually come to light.

With this collection I have attempted to translate the shifting moods of the novel into four distinct colour stories, each reflecting a different element of the narrative.
